Polycarp (c. 69–155 AD) was the bishop of Smyrna in Asia Minor and a direct disciple of the Apostle John.
At age 86, Polycarp was martyred in Smyrna for refusing to renounce Christ, famously declaring, “Eighty-six years I have served Him, and He has done me no wrong,” before being burned at the stake and stabbed when the fire failed to consume him, as recorded in the early account The Martyrdom of Polycarp.
